Member companies include: American Mobile Satellite; Boeing Commercial Space; COMSAT; Ellipso; GE American Comm.; Globalstar; Hughes Comm.; Iridium; Lockheed Martin; Loral Orion Network Systems; Loral Space & Comm.; Motorola; TRW, OSC; PanAmSat; and Teledesic. The year 1997 marked the first time in the history of the space program that commercial satellite launches outpaced civil and military launches combined. The unprecedented growth and consumer awareness of commercial satellite technology in the 90s has inevitably piqued the interest of policy makers from Washington to Geneva. SIA has established several active working groups to look at a host of issues including industry statistics, spectrum availability and auctions, launch quotas, and international trade and agreements. Mr. Mowry will address the major issues facing this industry and the status of their resolution. SPEAKER: Clayton Mowry is
the executive director of the Satellite Industry Association, a nonprofit
alliance of thirty U.S. commercial satellite companies and affiliated organizations
and is responsible for operations, industry relations and government affairs
at SIA. He has degrees from Ohio Wesleyan Univ. (BA in Politics and
Government) and from Georgetown University (MBA), has published numerous
articles on the commercial satellite industry, and is a featured monthly
columnist in "Satellite Communications" magazine. Prior to joining
SIA, he worked as a satellite industry analyst and senior international
trade specialist for the US Office of Telecommunications (DOC). Mr.
Mowry and his wife Kristin live in the District of Columbia.
