All civil servants will be receiving a copy as part of the yearlong celebration. Many contractor organizations have done mass orders to distribute free to their employees, and it will also be on sale at the GEWA Exchange store. She will be talking about the book and what she has learned both about us and about those who came before us here at Goddard. Ms. Wallace will be available at 3:00 before her talk to sign copies of her book. SPEAKER -- Lane E. Wallace
is a professional writer who lives in Los Angeles, California. She
is the author of three other books: Flights of Discovery: 50 Years at
the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center; Airborne Trailblazer
(a history of the Langley Research Center’s 737 testbed aircraft, which
won the 1994 Washington Edpress Silver Award for Excellence in Print);
and a commemorative history of the Defense Technical Information Center.
She is also one of the authors of From Engineering Science to Big Science,
an anthology published in 1998 about the NACA and NASA Collier Trophy award-winning
projects. In addition to her books, Ms. Wallace has written and co-produced
a 3-part video documentary series entitled "Test Flights: Flights of Discovery",
exploring the human drama and adventure of flight research. She has
also published over 200 articles on a wide variety of aviation and aerospace
topics. Her work has earned her an honorary membership in the United
States Air Force Society of Wild Weasels, as well as a citation for "Outstanding
Contributions to Preserve General Aviation" by the Torrance, California,
Airport Association. Ms. Wallace graduated with honors from Brown
University in 1983, with a degree in Semiotics. She is a private
pilot and has owned a 1946 Cessna 120 as well as her current plane, a 1977
Grumman Cheetah. In addition to her own airplane projects, she has
also worked as a volunteer for the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino,
California, and both the "Tsunami" and "Pond Racer" Unlimited air racing
crews.
