Title: Low Cost Access to Space

Speaker: Dick Kohrs and Debra Facktor Lepore

Abstract

A description of the K-1 vehicle, the Kistler business approach, the anticipated business base, the performance capability to low earth orbits, and the standard mission profile will be presented.  In addition, the status of the first vehicle will be presented with examples of commercial practices that Kistler utilized in requirements, development, manufacturing, and oversight.  Also, a status of our launch facility activity in Woomera, Australia, and the Nevada Test Site will be discussed.  We will also discuss our involvement with NASA and potential NASA missions.

Speaker Bio

Dick Kohrs is responsible for K-1 vehicle design and configuration and ensuring the K-1 meets all technical specifications.  He has over 30 years of experience in systems engineering and integration of NASA Apollo, Shuttle, and Space Station programs and joined Kistler Aerospace in April 1997 after serving as Director, ANSER Center for International Aerospace Cooperation.

Debra Facktor Lepore, as Manager of Payload Systems, interfaces with customers of the K-1 reusable aerospace vehicle.  Prior to joining Kistler, Ms. Facktor Lepore served as chief of Moscow operations for ANSER's Center for International Aerospace Cooperation, managing ANSER's Russian-based activities and leading analyses of Russian and other Newly Independent States aerospace programs and technologies.  She provides Kistler expertise in advanced space launch systems, propulsion, space policy, and international business development.  She earned a BS degree (magna cum laude) and a MS degree, both in Aerospace Engineering, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and has also studied space policy and law at the International Space University in Strasbourg, France.  She speaks proficient Russian and beginning French.
