"A Perspective on Space Technology for Exploration"

ABSTRACT -- Dateline: Sep 11, 2101. A GammaComm message to the Europeans, Eurasians, Africans, Australians and Americans from the leader of Europa: The history, value and potential of space exploration by humans and robotic observatories will be presented from a Europan perspective. SPEAKER -- Dr. Livanos leads the 9000 men and women who work on the Space Park campus in Redondo Beach, California on high profile US civil and military satellite systems including the $4.5 billion James Webb Space Telescope and the National Polar-orbiting Observational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS). Prior to joining Northrop Grumman in 2003, Livanos served as executive vice president of Boeing Satellite Systems He previously served as deputy general manager for the former TRW Electronic Systems and Technology Division and later as executive vice president of operations for Space Systems/Loral.

Livanos earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, a master's degree in engineering science, and a Ph.D. in engineering science and physics from the California Institute of Technology, where he subsequently taught applied physics for two years as a post-doctorate fellow.

He is a member of the IEEE and Senior Member of the AIAA. He is on the Engineering Board of Directors for the University of Southern California, Board of Directors of the Space Foundation, and a National Board Member for the National Defense Industries Association. He is also Chairman of the Science Advisory Council for the Graduate Aeronautical Laboratory of Caltech.
