"From the Concept to the Racetrack in Less Than a Year"

ABSTRACT -- The University of Maryland’s 2012 Formula SAE car (TR12) is a complete vehicle redesign representing Maryland’s first car with fully integrated aerodynamics, using lap-time simulations to guide the powertrain and aerodynamic configurations. Due to the short schedule, a unique waterfall design methodology was adopted in order to maximize the systems engineering phase of the design without compromising production deadlines. All things aside, however, this is the story of what a passionate group of engineers achieved using nothing more than guts, passion, and the desire to win.

SPEAKERS --
Brad Passe
is a mechanical engineering senior at the University of Maryland. His primary interests are in internal combustion modeling as well as structural analysis. He has served as the powertrain design lead for the Terps Racing team. Brad is an avid BMW enthusiast, and hopes one day to work for their M performance division

Stephen Chung is a mechanical engineering senior at the University of Maryland. His interests include aerodynamics as well as systems engineering. He serves as the chief engineer for Terps Racing, and has been part of the program since his freshman year. He hopes one day to work for a racing team.
