"Stories from the Space Above Us"

ABSTRACT -- The Space Above Us is a bi-weekly podcast about the history of NASA human spaceflight. It covers each and every piloted NASA mission, from Freedom 7 to STS-135, one episode at a time. Everyone knows about John Glenn and Apollo 13, but what about Gemini IX-A? Or STS-27? Fascinating stories wait inside dry mission reports, just waiting to be told. The Space Above Us seeks to unlock those stories.

In this presentation, the podcast's creator JP Burke talks about the origin and motivations of the podcast, the production process, and what surprises he's found along the way. If you'd like to take a listen before the talk, head over to http://thespaceabove.us .

SPEAKER -- JP Burke s a software engineer and lifelong spaceflight enthusiast. He currently works at a.i. solutions, supporting the Earth Science Mission Operations group (Code 595) by writing ground system software for the Earth Observing System constellation.

Originally from Boston, he attended Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, the alma mater of Robert Goddard. He worked in Philadelphia, Buffalo, and New York City, before moving to Maryland to join a.i. solutions.

He launched his NASA human spaceflight history podcast "The Space Above Us" in May of 2016 with the goal of spreading his enthusiasm for space and publicizing fascinating stories that lurk in dry old mission reports.
